Trash and Recycling Rules

Summary

Living in a condominium community comes with many benefits, and also with some responsibilities. In order to maintain a pleasant and beautiful community for all, we have to abide by certain rules and processes. Please  refer to the guidelines below when disposing of trash and recycling.

Dumpsters

  • Dumpsters are located at the northwest end of Tower 300, just past the loading dock.
  • The recycling dumpster is designated with recycling logos. The other 2 dumpsters are for Trash.
  • IMPORTANT: Detroit Disposal will not pick up BULK ITEMS of any kind. Examples: All furniture, mattresses and box springs, appliances, old computers, etc.. Therefore, you must contact the front office to arrange a special pick-up.

Trash Disposal

Regular trash/garbage must be secured tightly in a plastic bag and deposited into the trash chute. No packing  materials, Styrofoam peanuts, or large items are to be put into the trash chute. The rule of thumb to  follow is "if it does not fit, do not force it".

Items that do not belong in the trash chute, but that can be left in the trash room include the following:

  • Small, neatly contained recycleables (including bottles, cans, newspapers/magazines, etc.)
  • Hangers, neatly bundled together.
  • Small broken down boxes

Bulk Item Disposal

Bulk Items that require a special pickup by Detroit Disposal must be arranged with the office in  advance, and a fee will be charged to the Co-owners' account for special pickups. The freight elevator  must be reserved, as always, when moving any large items out of the building. If you need assistance with moving large items, please contact the office to arrange for maintenance to assist, a labor charge  will be assessed for this service.

Some examples of bulk items that cannot be left outside without prior approval are:

  • Furniture
  • Appliances
  • Mattresses/Box Springs
  • Electronics (Televisions, Desktop Computers, Large Stereos)

Recycling

Riverfront Condominium residents have a variety of options when it comes to recycling:

  1. Glass/plastic bottles, cans, and small broken-down boxes can be left in the trash room. Bottles  and cans must be neatly contained, and boxes must be completely broken down, bundled together,  and neatly stacked.
  2. Large Recycling must be taken outside to the recycling dumpster, located near the trash dumpster behind the  building. Recycling must be placed inside the dumpster - please do not leave items outside of the  dumpster.
  3. A third option, if you would like to be assured that your items are being properly sorted and recycled, is to take your recycling to Recycle Here, the closest location to our community can be  found at 1331 Holden Street.

Recycle Here! Drop-off Facility

Hazardous Waste

If you have any hazardous waste to dispose of such as paint cans, gasoline or aerosol cans, please do not  put them into the trash chute – these items may be taken to a hazardous waste collection site.
